WSCS Playlist 3/30/12

Welcome to Out of the Woods, a 3-hour program of mostly acoustic music which airs ever Friday from 6 to 9 e.s.t. locally, and is syndicated on The Global Voice, a station run primarily by blind program hosts, and aimed at bringing together the blind and sighted communities (http://www.theglobalvoice.info - Sundays at 5 pm e.s.t.,  repeating at 11 pm on Mondays), and also on BOB-FM (http://www.bob-fm.webs.com/, Sundays at 6 am e.s.t.)

This week we remembered the great Earl Scruggs who passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 88.  Earl was an innovator on the 5-string banjo and is solely responsible for the 3-finger style which became standard in bluegrass music.  Earl Scruggs is an American legend.  With his passing, the original Bluegrass Boys classic lineup of 1945-1947, which consisted of Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, Chubby Wise, and Cedric Rainwater have all passed on.  I included plenty of Scruggs material on the show tonight, including the Earl Scruggs & Friends Radio Special from 2001. The rest was bluegrass material I had laid-out for the show prior to the news. So, all bluegrass tonight, and a bit of a return of the old 'Music For The Mountain' shows of old...
